Biovac’s alignment with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

1. Contributing to the achievement of United Nations’ Millenium Development Goals (MDG)

The Biovac Institute has positioned itself in contributing to the reduction of child mortality, especially millenium development goal 4 which aims to reduce child mortality by two thirds. Our contribution is in ensuring consistent and effective supply of relevant vaccines within this part of the African continent.

2. Biovac’s collaboration with AMSCO (African Management Services Company) in placing of global expats for local skills development and retention – A UNDP initiative

AMSCO’s primary objective is to assist African companies to become globally competitive, profitable and sustainable. AMSCO seeks to achieve this by providing qualified, experienced, hands-on, Professionals and Managers from across the world to selected private companies and commercially operated public enterprises, with the aim of aiding local operations whilst at the same time developing local management capacity.
The African Training and Management Services (ATMS) Project is sub-Saharan Africa’s biggest and most ambitious human capital development effort in the private sector. Created to play a key role in Africa’s economic development and operating in over twenty five countries, the Project provides global human capital solutions local skills development and wealth creation.
The ATMS Project is a regional project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and serviced by AMSCO locally based in Illovo, Gauteng.

Through Biovac’s partnership with AMSCO and our participation in in the ATMS project, we have been in the position to source global expats into some of our more strategic roles such as vaccine site operations management, senior technical advisors within the field of vaccines and Engineering on a fixed term contract basis in order for them to assist in gearing up our facility as well as imparting their valuable skills and intellectual property onto our local teams

3. Creating an African Centre of Excellence through Corporate Social Investments

LEAP Science & Maths School

In partnership with LEAP Science & Maths School, Biovac donates towards the upkeep of the school premises and invests in the education of LEAP students who are keen in pursuing tertiary qualifications applicable to the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industries and majoring in relevant subjects such as Biotechnology, Chemistry and Engineering.
LEAP is a learning model that aims for excellence – particularly in Mathematics, Science and English – and so transforms disadvantaged young people’s lives and the communities where they live. LEAP provides a high quality education to students from grades 9 to 12 with the potential to learn and a willingness to work hard towards success in education, future employment and life. Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital

Biovac has maintained an on-going relationship with Valkenberg and has supported this facility with annual donations, hampers & gifts for patients in line with significant events and holidays

Others

Through our internal Employee Wellness Programme, particularly related to our social wellness pillar, our staffs contributes to Corporate social investment through supporting institutions like the Lions Club, partnering with homes such as Saartjie Baartman Centre for Abused Women, Gift of the Givers and other similar activities in our dedication to offering a helping hand to our community.
